The design maximises the unique location and the main pedestrian journeys in and around the town centre.
Our extensive studies show two major diagonal routes through the Square linking the most popular areas of Chapel Bar, Nottingham Castle, Upper Parliament Street, Pelham Street and Victoria Street, not forgetting the most popular route from the Railway Station through Exchange Walk and up to King Street. Interestingly, these routes are the same as they were for travellers through history such as market traders who arrived in Nottingham and visited the Lace Market before going up through the Square to the Castle to sell their wares.
By keeping this movement through the Square its heart will be full of life making it vibrant, and a happy balance of pedestrian movement and stationary activities.
